Accreditation and conformity assessment
- IAF - International Accreditation Forum, global association of accreditation bodies,
which accredit conformity assessment bodies
- accreditation is the independent evaluation of conformity assessment bodies against recognised standards to ensure
their impartiality and competence
- accreditation bodies evaluated by peers as competent and sign arrangements that enhance the acceptance of products and
services across national borders
- IAF establishes Multilateral Recognition Arrangements (MLA) between its accreditation body members in order to contribute
to the freedom of world trade by eliminating technical barriers to trade

- EA - European co-operation for Accreditation, a not-for-profit association, registered in the Netherlands. It is formally appointed by the European Commission in Regulation (EC) No 765/2008 to develop and maintain a multilateral agreement of mutual recognition, the EA MLA, based on a harmonized accreditation infrastructure
- APAC - Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation established on 1 January 2019 by the amalgamation of two former regional accreditation cooperations – the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC) and the Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (PAC)

ISO uses a confusing vocabulary where on one hand there is accreditation = certification, where an Accreditation Body (AB) or Certification Body (CB)
has the conformity assessor (CAB) as subject (e.g. in ISO 17065), and on the other hand there is conformity assessment executed by the CAB
against a standard (e.g. ISO 27001).
